In that part of the Cycle when the world is gone and awaits creation, Odin comes to Yggdrasil - his mother, the Tree of Life. He argues against her suggestion to create a world for fear of what his children will do to Her, for how they will fail to respect life, but she explains how it is the only way to ensure that the cycle continues.
